System Center 2025 will support direct in-place upgrade from System Center 2022.
Q&A:
- Q: What OS versions are supported for SCOM 2025 Server roles?
- A: Windows Server 2019, 2022, and 2025. LINK
- Q: What versions of SQL server are supported for SCOM 2025 OpsDB, Warehouse, and Reporting Server roles?
- A: SQL 2017, SQL 2019 CU8+, and SQL 2022 CU11+ are supported. LINK
- Q: What Windows OS versions are supported as a monitored Agent for SCOM 2025?
- A: Windows Server 2019, 2022, 2025, Windows 10, and Windows 11. LINK
- Q: What previous SCOM Versions can be upgraded in place to SCOM 2025?
- A: SCOM 2022 only. LINK
- Q: In a side by side migration to a new SCOM 2025 management group, what SCOM versions can coexist in a supported fashion? (i.e… agents of one version communicating with management servers of another version?)
- A: SCOM 2022 can coexist with SCOM 2025 deployments. (It is possible that older versions of SCOM will communicate with SCOM 2025, but it isn’t a tested and supported scenario outside of what is documented) LINK
- Q: Are any capacity and scale changes coming in SCOM 2019?
- A: No, these are consistent with SCOM 2022. LINK
- Q: Should I upgrade in place from SCOM 2022, or do a side by side migration to a new management group and new VM’s?
- A: This depends on your current situation and your goals. Generally, the in-place upgrade will be the simplest solution. If you are running on previous SCOM, OS or SQL versions, you will have to evaluate how much work this will be to upgrade all your servers, SQL, and SCOM roles, versus deploying a new management group and “starting over”.
- Q: Can SCOM 2016 or 2019 be in-place upgraded directly to SCOM 2025?
- A: No. LINK
- Q: Do I need new management packs for SCOM 2025?
- A: No, any Microsoft MP that worked in SCOM 2012, 2016, 2019, or 2022 should work in SCOM 2025. However, you should regularly do a review of your MP’s in use and update them to current versions. You should independently verify support for new versions of SCOM with any 3rd party MP suppliers.

Hi Kevin,
puuuh, I was afraid that there will be no more news since the preview.
We’ve been there already, but seems like SCOM will be abandoned.
Frustrating.
Cheers,
Patrick
Same here. Sad to see Microsoft not putting any more updates into SCOM. Especially some state of the art URL monitoring capabilities.
What are the alternatives? We had already looked into Azure Monitoring, which was, at the time, lightyears away from being able to take over what SCOM does.
This is great news Kevin 😀
Does the web console work better? I’m on 2022 UR1 and so many features of the web console don’t work. Like the topology view, performance monitoring, Health Explorer, etc.
I saw on the website below that Google Chrome v121 and later are supported. Which makes me wonder if my problem is browser compatibility.

It would be great if they fixed this, but if I have to choose between a working web console and being able to monitor Server 2016, I think I have to let the web console go.
Looking forward to the step by step upgrade
Again a major version update that contains only 2 small features, that should be included in any update rollup of an existing supported version.
No reason whatsoever for us to upgrade from SCOM 2019… which is a pain process anyway. (double os ver upgrades + double scom uogrades)
Very disappointing.
Agreed it seems more of an UR for the web console than anything else.
No support to monitor Windows 2016 ?
We still have a lot of Windows 2026 server.
